I reach out a blurred hand
to spin it once again;
a globe clearer to my sight
than my ruddy skin.
This time I will not wait
for it to turn again,
I will try to push back,
to move far from this place.
But for now I watch shade
fall over the earth,
reaching around to pull
a taut, sun-soaked string.
Do not
try to break into my box
knees, neck, back, ground
sealing me in
safe.
You shove
pushing me into a wall
shove, shove, panic
I push back
undone.
I roar
lashing out unguarded blows
hiss, punch, bruising
static vision
blurred.
Faceless
you take the place of shadows,
crawling, itching,
threat realised
I fight.
Unrestrained
I swipe until I come to;
cornered, afraid,
box myself
back in.
You, like any other generic monster,
scream into a vacuum of vacant air.
While I am no longer skulking in shadows
you think the house hostile, a compromised lair.
Ruinous images across lamp lit walls,
a forensic's wealth of bloody Rorscharch marks,
in smiles before I was aware of the world
before I was aware of what you had scarred.
My skin erupts in gooseflesh,
a reaction to the cold
it pinches tight but deeper,
I am thinking of you alone.
It feels like those strange cacti,
when walking through cold paddocks
they pierced my skin and, bleeding,
I pulled out the needles, leaving tracks.
Prickly pears, that I had once
swallowed whole just for the feeling,
I now rip them from my body
lest I fail you, damaged, useless.
I reach out a blurred hand
to spin it once again;
a globe clearer to my sight
than my ruddy skin.
This time I will not wait
for it to turn again,
I will try to push back,
to move far from this place.
But for now I watch shade

Rational or irrational. Fear causes us to flee, and in the most dangerous of circumstances it paralyzes us. It festers in your mind and puffs itself up into more than what it really is. Perhaps it's the primal fear of death, the unknown, pain, loss, or spiders.
What makes you afraid?
